Valley of the Sun United Way is a volunteer-driven organization that involves community leaders and professionals in every aspect of our business. Thousands of volunteers lend their time and expertise in assisting United Way staff with organizational management, fundraising, marketing and technology as well as carefully investing donor contributions in local programs.

As one of the most efficient and effective nonprofit organizations in nation, Valley of the Sun United Way gives a special thanks to the following volunteer groups for their ongoing support and commitment:

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is composed of leaders from throughout our community. As members of the Board, these volunteers are charged with the responsibility of assuring the integrity of our organization by overseeing financial, structural and policy decisions that guide the organization, volunteers and staff.

Campaign Cabinet
The Campaign Cabinet includes leaders from both the public and private sectors of our community. Cabinet members volunteer their time to help increase community participation in the United Way campaign within their respective industries. Their leadership is critical to the success of the annual fundraising effort.

Community Impact Committee
The Community Impact Committee (CIC) is comprised of eight professionals who are leaders in their fields. They represent a cross-section of organizations – from the government sector to large corporations – who are committed to improving local communities throughout Maricopa County. Members provide expert guidance and insight to maximize Community Impact in collaboration with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors. CIC members also serve on a variety of other Valley of the Sun United Way volunteer committees, including the Executive Committee, Public Policy Committee, Investment Leadership Committee and the East Valley Regional Council.

Community Investment Volunteers
More than 120 trained volunteers, knowledgeable about the needs of our community, carefully evaluate hundreds of local results-driven programs for efficiency and effectiveness. This diverse group of individuals from throughout the Valley volunteer year-round, making difficult decisions about how to invest your United Way contribution in programs that do the most good. Their dedication assures you that you’ve made the best choice for helping our entire community.

Impact Advisory Council
The Impact Advisory Council (IAC) is comprised of 17 leaders from the nonprofit and government sectors – ranging from foundations, universities, health and human services – as well as city and state departments. These experts bring an expansive background of experience and resources while providing valuable insight and feedback on Valley of the Sun United Way’s work in the community. The IAC works to identify new opportunities, while keeping the goals and objectives of Community Impact moving forward.

East Regional Council
The East Regional Council includes volunteers with experience and a vested interest in human care challenges affecting East Valley communities (Chandler, Chandler Heights, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek, Sun Bird and Sun Lakes). Council volunteers work to extend United Way's presence in the East Valley by providing guidance, expertise and public support.

Finance and Audit Committee
The Finance and Audit Committee consists of community volunteers who have professional experience and expertise in finance. The committee provides assistance to the Board in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibility. In so doing, the committee maintains free and open communication between itself, independent auditors, and VSUW management. The primary responsibility of the committee is to oversee the organization’s financial reporting and management practices on behalf of the Board and report the results of their activities to the Board.

Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee includes volunteers with professional experience and expertise in the areas of marketing, communications, special events and public relations. They work with the marketing and communications department to develop strategies that effectively communicate the organization's unique ability to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community. Through brand management, advertising, communications, public relations, special events, market research and Internet strategies, Valley of the Sun United Way marketing efforts strive to create a consistently positive, inspiring and motivating experience for our current and potential committed donors.

Public Policy Committee
The Public Policy Committee (PPC) includes seven Valley professionals with expertise in influencing and guiding public policy. Members serve to provide guidance in the arena of public policy and to help shape Valley of the Sun United Way’s goals and objectives. Select members also serve on the Executive Committee and the Community Impact Committee.

Tocqueville Cabinet
The Tocqueville Cabinet volunteers are committed to increasing the success of Valley-wide fundraising efforts by maintaining and expanding membership of the Tocqueville Society – donors contributing $10,000 or more annually to United Way. Made up of more than 500 community leaders and philanthropists, the Tocqueville Society continues to set a standard that is second to none in charitable giving. Thanks to their ongoing leadership, last year more than $7 million was raised by members of the Tocqueville Society.

Valley of the Sun United Way Foundation Board of Directors
The Foundation Board of Directors provides ongoing expertise and oversight to United Way staff with respect to long-term charitable giving. For individuals, families and foundations identifying Valley of the Sun United Way as a beneficiary, this key group of volunteers helps ensure their tradition of caring endures for generations to come.
