Ensuring Youth & Teens Succeed
Keeping Arizona's Kids on Track.
A high school graduate will earn $740,000 more in lifetime income than an individual who does not finish high school. But every day in Maricopa County, more than 30 teenagers drop out of school.
Valley of the Sun United Way is preparing young people for life, work and school by:
- Investing in youth development programs that implement results-driven practices
- Supporting services to youth with specific challenges
- Increasing positive student engagement in targeted schools
- Increasing the availability of youth development programs in targeted communities
Our Goals for 2012
- Increase youth scores on standardized testing by 10% in targeted high-need schools
- Increase the number of youth who successfully transition from targeted middle schools to high schools by 10%
- Increase the number of youth who participate in out-of-school youth development activities in targeted communities by 10 percentage points
- Increase the likelihood that youth in Valley of the Sun United Way programs will be positively engaged in school, family and community by 40% in comparison to their peers
Our Vision for 2020
Our goal, working with our community partners, is to increase the percentage of Valley youth who graduate from high school from 76.4% to 85% by 2020.
