Arizona Cardinals, Sagicor and United Way bring ‘Hometown Huddle’ to local elementary school

WHAT: 
The Arizona Cardinals, Sagicor Life Insurance and Valley of the Sun United Way team-up on Tuesday, Nov. 8 for the annual NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle. The event will take place at Michael Anderson School, a K-8 Avondale school that implements United Way’s Success by Six program, which brings comprehensive early childhood services and support to targeted high-need communities to prepare young children and their families for success in Kindergarten and beyond.

On this day, the Arizona Cardinals will host a mini-training camp featuring various fitness drills for students, and they will put the finishing touches on a playground renovation project benefiting the school. The playground will be enhanced by the installation of a brand new play structure and the addition of a fresh layer of playground sand that will encourage a safe, active environment for the students of Michael Anderson School for years to come.

WHO:  
Cardinals players in attendance will include: T D'Anthony Batiste, C Ryan Bartholomew, OLB O'Brien Schofield and RB Alfonso Smith. They will be joined by more than 100 elementary school students, Cardinals cheerleaders, Cardinals’ mascot Big Red, co-sponsor Sagicor Life Insurance, and Valley of the Sun United Way staff and volunteers.

WHY: 
Hometown Huddle is an annual one-day partnership with the NFL and United Way that enables NFL players and team staff to create community service activities and promote healthy and active lifestyles while giving back to the community. This year’s local school project affirms the Arizona Cardinals and Valley of the Sun United Way’s shared commitment to ensuring that our youth succeed in school and in life.
