Position Summary: To be a key member of the Valley of the Sun United Way development team dedicated to establishing new relationships with key constituents throughout Maricopa County (individuals and corporations). Provide leadership to the creation and execution of a management system for the year round cultivation of new partnerships. It is expected that 70% of this individual’s time will be spent in the community.
Responsibilities Include:
•Create an annual business plan for new partnership development and implement it effectively.
•Establish goals and strategies for the enhancement of new partnerships based on factual analysis.
•Research, test and implement new partnership strategies to improve effectiveness.
•Develop high potential prospects for first-time United Way partnerships working in cooperation with VSUW staff and volunteers.
•Recruit and manage a diverse team of community leaders who will provide guidance and expertise in the new partnership development.
•Cultivate community support for United Way by initiating and maintaining relationships with individuals, businesses and organizations on a year round basis.
•Speak publicly during annual campaign and as needed throughout the year
•Build expertise in business and community affairs by attending appropriate meetings, seminars and networking events.
•Creatively seek/develop new opportunities for prospects to engage in the work of VSUW.
•Actively participate in the Prospect Management system.
•Facilitate linkage of individual major gift prospects with Principle Gifts team.
•Duties will include additional projects and programs as determined by Vice President.
Skills & Abilities Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree.
•Two plus years of non-profit fund development or related field in a for-profit environment
oThe right combination of education and/or relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of degree requirements.
•New donor acquisition/sales and customer service background critical.
•Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
•Excellent presentation and communication skills.
•Comfortable and fluent in a variety of social situations.
•Proven track record for presenting a case and securing a gift or closing a sale.
•Demonstrated skills of creativity, resourcefulness and strategic thinking.
•Demonstrated strengths in efficiency, timeliness, multi-tasking, and attention-to-detail.
•Highly motivated self-starter.
•Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
•Maintain a positive attitude towards volunteers, donors, and VSUW at all times.
•Commitment to continuous improvement.
•Team player.
Technical Knowledge Requirements:
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
•Ability to use the Internet and have a proven comfort level with learning new software applications as necessary.
•Ability to maintain the integrity of the database.
Other Requirements:
•Ability to work hours outside the standard 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM timeframe and to travel, if necessary.
•Valid Arizona driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and daily access to personal vehicle.
•Professional appearance and demeanor a must.
