Volunteer Coordinator

Department: Resource Development
Reports to: Vice President Resource Development
Other: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Grade 2, $32,500 - $36,100

Position Summary:
This position assists in the execution of VSUW’s volunteer plan by providing support to current impact projects, assists with the creating of corporate projects. Manages all aspects of the volunteer management process, including project/event planning and volunteer correspondence. Additionally, position will support VSUW's Affinity groups, including project and event planning (80% volunteer coordinator, 20% Affinity groups).

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Create corporate volunteer opportunities that leverage VSUW impact areas and corporate interests.
  • Develop and coordinate volunteer project execution process that improves interdepartmental communication and cooperation.
  • Integrate volunteer engagement tactics into larger donor cultivation strategy.
  • Represent VSUW to corporate partners at workplace campaigns and volunteer projects.
  • Strengthen established partnerships with corporations through volunteer opportunities.
  • Establish and sustain relationships between VSUW and its community agency partners that enable the creation of effective volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop and integrate United Way brand recognition and association with agency impact and volunteer experience.
  • Educate individuals and corporations about VSUW’s role to enhance donor affiliation with VSUW.
  • Connect the individual volunteer experience to large scale systemic change efforts in order to drive donations to the general fund.
  • Track volunteer involvement using legacy database.
  • Manage the volunteer experience:
    • Includes: RSVPs, communication with volunteers pre, post and during event, on-site contact for volunteers, database recording of volunteers, serve as liaison between Resource Development, Marketing and Community Impact.
  • Corporate Projects:
    • Represent VSUW at corporate/community volunteer fairs.
    • Establish and sustain relationships with agencies to identify projects for key accounts.
    • Create annual calendar of opportunities to proactively present and schedule companies for year round volunteer projects.
    • Ensure VSUW recognition at agency volunteer projects.
  • Assist in project and event planning of Affinity Groups.
  • Active and participating member of orgainzation's Inclusion and Diversity team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Three plus years experience in volunteer management or project management
  • Non-profit experience a plus.
    • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities to do the job. 
  • Demonstrated independent thinking and ability to connect the big picture in day to day work and projects.
  • High level of initiative and follow-up with minimal supervision required.
  • Strong demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage time and tasks in order to meet strict deadlines and work in a fast-paced and ever changing environment.
  • Must be quick, a self starter, possess ability to look ahead and take charge of a situation.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, including conflict resolution.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Team player who is able to maintain appropriate relationships and provide excellent service with staff and external customers.
  • Must display high energy and drive in everyday work and completion of assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and function with confidential information and data.

Technical Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Requirements:

  • Computer literate with knowledge/experience in current Microsoft Office applications specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to use the Internet and have a proven ability of working in a systems environment, with ability to learn and use new software and systems as required.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work hours outside the standard Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM timeframe and to travel, if necessary. (will include some weekends)
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and access to personal vehicle.
