Vice President Major Gifts

Position Responsibilities:
This position will create and execute resource development strategies and plans designed to engage and grow major and significant gifts and relationships tied to organizational objectives. S/he will:
- Develop and implement short- and long-term approaches for growing the Tocqueville Society ($10,000 and above) to ensure that annual campaign goals are met or exceeded; analyze results and recommend additional strategies and tactics as needed.
- Increase engagement and giving from existing Tocqueville Society investors by deepening the knowledge and understanding of VSUW objectives.
- Identify prospective Society contributors, including existing Leadership Giving donors, and create strategies and plans to cultivate, solicit and engage over time.
- Promote and solicit an increase in unrestricted gifts in support of the Community Objectives through the development of strategies and plans designed to link donors in lifetime giving relationships.
- Utilize proven moves management processes and techniques for donor management and motivation.
- Staff and partner with members of the Campaign Cabinet, including the Tocqueville Society chair, co-chair and selected volunteers; support and collaborate with the CEO, SVP/CDO, Foundation board and volunteers as needed to leverage and impact high level solicitation, engagement strategies and results.
- As a member of the Resource Development management team, provide a united and strong leadership presence across the department and organization as an example of cross-functional collaboration and work integration to promote and operationalize the new business model.
- Serve as a member of a Community Objectives team working in collaboration with other employees and business units to integrate efforts and ensure the most efficient and effective outcomes on behalf of the organization’s mission.
- Cultivate and grow positive, productive relationships with board members, volunteers, community and business leaders, investors, stakeholders, senior officers, and fellow employees to influence and advance the mission of the organization.
- Maintain knowledge of current and evolving fund development, economic, political, and general business trends that may affect VSUW results to aid in the calibration of overall development efforts.
Position Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have seven to 10 years of successful experience in resource development, with at least seven in major and significant gift cultivation and solicitation, volunteer management and team collaboration. Equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the knowledge and abilities to do the job will be accepted.
S/he must have:
- Demonstrated track record and results in all aspects of high end fund development with expert knowledge of the moves management system of donor management; proven success and comfort in asking for and closing five- and six-figure gifts.
- Significant experience and know how in assessing, aligning and linking prospects and donors with business objectives; expertise in envisioning new approaches and opportunities to sell products through creative targeting and product/donor matching, analysis and business development.
- Excellent relationship cultivation skills at all levels including employees, CEO-level board members, volunteers, donors, officers, stakeholders, etc., with the skills to support and coordinate the efforts of others.
- Strong communication, listening and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate the mission and messages in a compelling manner in individual and group settings; confidence to assert, present perspective, engage others, and influence outcomes.
- Desire to collaborate as part of a team building effective relationships, integrating the work with other business units and focusing on the big picture to advance the most significant business outcomes; ability to exhibit behaviors that reflect and support organizational direction.
- Supervisory skills for direct and cross-functional team management; ability to lead, coach, train and motivate staff.
- Strong contributor traits such as strategic, creative, innovative, and well-organized with strong follow-up and follow-through; style that is high energy, enthusiastic and positive.
- High degree of ethics, integrity and interpersonal skills, and values that align with the mission of VSUW.
- Working knowledge of MS Office software; ability to search and effectively use the Internet, as well as use and learn development software as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree required in related field or equivalent combination of years and experience.
